GUEST SPEAKER MELISSA RINGER from PROJECT ACCESS
Hi Becky and RARSPA Members,
We are so glad your group expressed interest in learning more about individuals with ASD and the best ways to serve them! We are sorry we can’t meet in person, but we thought you might appreciate this short webinar we created a few years ago. I have included some updated statistics below as the research is constantly changing these numbers.

COMMUNITY SERVICE REPORT from KERRY WELCH
From Community Service - We may not be meeting and collecting our regular donations right now, but we know that many of you are volunteering (making masks, still taking people to the doctor or to the store, shopping and getting groceries for someone, making porch deliveries, etc., maybe even watching children while someone has to work). Remember that all of these things can count as volunteer hours. Since we aren't meeting in person, please email your volunteer hours. You can also count any donations you have made and if they were cash donations, just email me the amount and I'll get that on our sheets. You may combine March and April hours and donations since we haven't met either month. I know many of you are out there doing things and we want to make sure those hours and donations get counted! Email your volunteer hours and donations to [email protected] Even though many things are closed, you can count many things as volunteer hours, such as getting groceries for a neighbor who is unable to get out, donating masks, and even phone calls to check on neighbors. Thanks for all you are still doing to support our community!

INFORMATION AND PROTECTIVE SERVICES REPORT from ANN WEBB
There is an article in the May 2020 Reader’s Digest that you might want to read, “How The Internet is Spying on You.” It is quite alarming to realize we are being “stalked” everywhere we go. “In your car. On your morning walk. Even in your own home – by your own TV.” The article goes on to give examples of how various things – your TV, Smart Speakers, cars, fitness trackers, Facebook, Google, on-line retailers, and even schools are finding out things about you that you thought were private.
Instead of telling you everything in that article, I’m going to concentrate on the part of the article that shows you “How to Protect Yourself.”
Click on Information and Protective Services to read “How to Protect Yourself.”

LEGISLATIVE REPORT from JENIFER YOUNG
Message from Jim Kreider, MRTA Executive Director
Dear Most Valued Members of MRTA:
I hope this message finds you well and with that positive attitude, all public school educators seem to have. We love you!!
This is a historic time for our nation, our state, and for your MRTA to say the least. On March 16th, I asked that all MRTA meetings be canceled until at least June 1st in an effort to keep everyone well. It was sure the right thing to do in hindsight. MRTA staff has stayed working during this time with a change in schedules and locations, one staff member has worked in the office each day as the others worked from home. The phones at MRTA have been answered promptly every day. Our mail has been opened and processed every day. Our bills have been paid on time AND we have attempted to keep you informed with at least three statewide e-mails a week on important issues.
In spite of the changes in work schedules, MRTA has still been watching out for you at the PSRS/PEERS System and at the two city PSRS pension systems as well. MRTA is proud to say we have worked hard to keep serving the over 29,000 MRTA members during these difficult times. A sincere THANK YOU to all for sticking this out with us!
I would like to personally appeal to ask someone to join today! There is strength in numbers!
Recent NEWS and two "CALL TO ACTIONS"
NEWS! The stay-at-home order for Cole County will be lifted Saturday, April 25th. MRTA staff, 5 of us total, will be returning to the office to work on Monday, April 27th. Also, the Legislature is slated to return to Jefferson City on Monday, April 27th.
PLEASE watch for "CALL TO ACTION" emails from MRTA for the next three weeks. We must be prepared to move quickly! The Legislature is sure to be moving at a fast pace to pass as many bills as they can before the end of legislative session on May 15th. We do not know, as of this date, what their agenda may be. We do know there already have been withholdings from The Foundation Formula and transportation funding. We know the billionaires will be involved, it is an election year. The process is not normal due to the virus. We must pay close attention to the Legislature the next three weeks.
"CALL TO ACTION" - PSRS/PEERS BOARD ELECTION: Please vote! Ballots for the PSRS/PEERS Board of Trustees are being mailed to you today. There are four candidates listed and two seats available. Please vote for MRTA's endorsed and sponsored candidates. The retired educator needs stronger voices on the Board of Trustees in these tough times. See below for more.
Sincerely yours,
Jim Kreider
